Who I am / About Me
Hi, I’m Gavin, the founder of SOAR (Student Organization for Academic Readiness). I started SOAR because I believe students learn best when they’re supported by peers who understand the challenges of high school — from rigorous classes to leadership roles and extracurricular commitments. Our program connects motivated student mentors with peers who want to build stronger study habits, boost their confidence, and achieve long-term success.
I’m currently ranked #1 in a class of nearly 700 students, with a 4.0 GPA and a 1520 SAT score. By the end of my sophomore year, I had completed seven AP exams, earning five 5’s and two 4’s, and I’ve also earned a 4.0 GPA in two dual-credit courses at the University of Texas. This past summer, I completed a Johns Hopkins Biomedical Engineering Innovation course, part of the nation’s #1 Biomedical Engineering program, earning an A (4.0 GPA).
Beyond academics, I’ve served in student council and class leadership since 8th grade, am a member of both the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society, and have been honored to serve on Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne’s Youth Advisory Council. I also compete in Mock Trial (state qualifier in 2024), and I’m active in HOSA: Future Health Professionals and ATXSI (Alliance Texas Student Influencers). Volunteering with Texas Health Alliance and Cook Children’s Medical Center has further inspired me to pursue a career in medicine.
Through SOAR, I want to help other students discover that academic success is about more than test scores. It’s about developing the discipline, strategies, and support system to excel in school — without giving up the passions that make you who you are.
